This new lathe brings the benefits of full electronic speed control to users with limited space or those requiring an all cast construction. it€™s small size makes it easy to transport to shows and demonstrations.
This variable speed version of the DML305 shares many of the same essential features and specifications as its fixed speed sibling such as the finely ground cast bed, cam lock toolrest and the capacity for extension, but with the additional benefit of full electronic speed control. This system should not be confused with the cheap and simple rheostat versions which have poor torque and can cause the motor to overheat. The DML305-VS uses a three phase motor and inverter system, similar to that used in the CL1 & CL4. A High quality German Schneider converts the standard single phase supply to three phase, enabling smooth, stepless control through a wide range of speeds. This is an industrially proven method and provides the low end torque that is so essential to the woodturner but is sadly lacking in so many poorer quality alternatives.
